This is a 4 day circuit
trip that explores the enchanting and
relatively untouched valleys north of Lhasa.
During our trip we visit Terdrom Nunnery (4325
m) and medicinal hot springs; Drigung
Monastery, the head of the Drigung school of
Kargyupa order of Tibetan Buddhism; Reting
Monastery (4070 m), one of the important
Gelukpa Monasteries; and our trip culminates
in Lhasa after exploring Namtso, the Sky Lake.
Day 1:
LHASA-DRIGUNG (120 KM, 4 HRS)
Drive north-east via Medrogongar to Drigung
and Terdrom Nunnery. Also a visit to the
Drigung Monastery and the sky burial place and
then continue to Terdrom where you can take a
dip in the medicinal hot springs. Over-night
stay in a comfortable Guest House.
Day 2:
DRIGUNG-RETING
After visiting Terdrom Nunnery and the holy
caves, we continue our drive through the
Changthang plains to Reting Monastery. Reting
Monastery is an important Gelukpa monastery in
Central Tibet, situated in a sprawling juniper
clad hill. Over-night stay in a comfortable
Guest House.
Day 3:
RETING-NAMTSO LAKE
The next day we continue our drive to Damshung
and then on to Namtso Lake, the 2nd largest
salt-water lake in Tibet. The Nyenchen Thangla
mountain ranges tower over the lake. During
the summer months Namtso is dotted with nomad
herders and their yaks and tents. Over-night
stay in a comfortable Guest House.
Day 4:
NAMTSO-LHASA
We drive back to Lhasa. On the way we stop to
visit the Ganden Monastery.
