The Dhaulagiri massif
is one of the tallest and biggest mountain systems in
the world, forty kilometres long and encompasses no
fewer than fifteen 7,000 m. plus peaks. The trek is an
extended and strenuous trek, through high alpine
pastures, high passes and serene, and uninhabited
valleys.
The area was
originally closed to visitors, for a variety of reasons
- including its remoteness, the region west and north of
Dhaulagiri was opened to trekkers in 1990, travelling in
organized groups. This made it possible for trekkers to
enter the region north of the Dhaulagiri massif.
