The Luangwa Valley is one of the finest wilderness sanctuaries in the world, a safari destination that really needs no explanation among enthusiasts. The highlight of this safari is the quality of guiding, tracking big game on foot and perhaps walking between the remote bush camps. It is certainly not strenuous, but exhilarating nonetheless.  

Day 1 & 2:

Guests depart by charter flight from Lilongwe International Airport to Mfuwe Airport in Luangwa Valley – Zambia. On arrival, they are met and transferred to the lodge. Accommodation has been reserved for 2 nights at Mfuwe Lodge on a full board basis, including all meals, game activities and national park entry fees. Drinks are for guest’s own account.

Situated in the heart of the Mfuwe area of the South Luangwa National Park, the area well known for it’s high concentrations of wildlife. Mfuwe Lodge offers luxurious accommodation in 18 chalets overlooking lagoons, which are frequented by much wildlife. The lodge has a wonderful airy feel and guests can enjoy game viewing from the private timber deck in front of their rooms or from the main pool deck. A superb library with natural history and collectable books from Africa’s early explorers provide fascinating reading between drives. Each room has been carefully positioned to afford guests maximum privacy and the attention to detail in the chalets makes them the most luxurious in the valley. Game activities include walking safaris and day and night game drives.

Day 3 & 4:

After breakfast guests are transferred by road to Chamilandu Bush Camp for 2 nights accommodation on a full board basis including game activities and park fees.

Chamilandu is located on the banks of the Luangwa River with a dramatic view of the sprawling and scenic Chendeni Hills. Situated in a large ebony grove, Chamilandu has a large fully stocked canoe bar and dining area open to the surrounding spectacular views. The 3 newly refurbished chalets are raised on wooden decking and have comfortable beds, mosquito nets and en-suite bathrooms with shower, washbasin and toilets.  The rooms are open air and are especially low cut to shoulder height to allow clients to take in the splendor of the Chendeni Hills. Game activities are mainly walking safaris with limited driving.

Day 5 & 6:

Today guests walk to Chendeni Camp for 2 nights accommodation on a full board basis including game activities and park fees.

Chendeni Camp nestles on the apex of a permanent ox bow lagoon, off set by the magnificent Chendeni Hills. Raised on wooden decking, Chendeni’s 4 en-suite tents provide luxury facilities.  Each tent has its own private raised veranda, which make ideal platforms to view the resident big game or to simply enjoy the serenity of the lagoon. Each tent has 2 queen sized beds, hot and cold running water, shower, toilet, double vanities and wooden flooring. Open dining/lounge and bar area is shaded by ebony’s.  From the bar are steps down to the lagoon side where guests can enjoy an open air dining experience. Game activities are all based on walking safaris only.

Day 7 & 8:

Bilimungwe is only a 6km walk from Chindeni and an early morning walk between the camps provides an ideal opportunity to enjoy both of these camps. Guests spend their final night in this area at Bilimungwe Camp on a full board basis including game activities and park fees.

Bilimungwe is situated 50 kms from the main Mfuwe area, heading south along the picturesque bank of the Luangwa River. Nestled in riverine forest in an exclusive area of the park, the camp specialises in walking safaris but can accommodate limited game viewing by vehicle. The camp consists of 4 reed and thatch chalets with en-suite shower, toilet and double vanities. Each chalet has two queen beds with large mosquito nets and an individual re-chargeable lighting system. The rustic dining area and fully stocked bar are constructed on raised decking with views of Bilimungwe’s permanent water hole and the abundant game that it attracts.  The thatched canopy provides a cool and comfortable environment in which to enjoy this idyllic setting. Enjoy sundowners in the clear shallow waters of the Kapamba River, only a short walk away from Bilimungwe and then take in a night drive back to camp. Game activities are mainly walking safaris, though some drives are available.

Day 8:

After an early morning activity, guests are driven back to Mfuwe Airport and board a charter flight back to Lilongwe International Airport (Lusaka is also an option) to connect with onward international flight connections.

Includes:            All accommodation, meals, air charters, road transfers, national park entry fees,    game activities, government taxes, domestic flight departure taxes and emergency evacuation cover.

Excludes:            International flights, international airport departure taxes, immigration visa fees (if required), bar, laundry, gratuities, personal travel insurance and items of a personal nature.

Notes:   Guests are strictly restricted to 12kg of luggage per passenger for charter flights (soft duffle bags only). Ulendo Safaris reserve the right to transfer guests by commercial flight if necessary. Itinerary is based on a minimum of 2 guests traveling together.
