CAMPING
NOTES
Meals
When
on a mobile tented safari, we prefer
our guests be out enjoying the fauna
and flora, so meal times are
flexible and aim to fit around all
game viewing. Food is always
plentiful: from Continental and
English breakfasts, quiche, salad
and pasta, to beef, chicken or lamb,
we’re positive that the chef will
surprise guests with the most
awesome meals. Whether it’s at
five thirty in the morning, during a
candle lit evening dinner or on a
picnic!
Driver
Guide
The
advantage of having one’s own
specialist guide throughout a
safari, is that he gets to know the
group and their key interests. He is
therefore able to concentrate solely
on bringing the bush alive without
repetition of information. Our
camping guides are generally the
most experienced in the operation.
They are all extremely knowledgeable
and highly qualified in every aspect
of flora and fauna, yet able to
converse over dinner, with their
views on ‘life’ in or out of
Africa. Apart from this, they all
add something unique to each safari:
their huge African personalities.
Game
drives and vehicle
For
the duration of the safari, we
provide guests with their own
four-wheel drive vehicle. This has
been fitted with an HF radio for
safety and communication and also
comes equipped with a cooler box,
binoculars and wildlife books.
Though we recommend guests bring
their own books and binos. Vehicles
have been designed with folding roof
hatches, large windows and
comfortable seats, so guests are
able to make the most of all game
viewing experiences. The advantage
of a mobile safari is that it is
without routine, so totally
tailor-made around the specific
interests of each guest. Activities
are dependent on local conditions
and game movements. Whether this
means travelling a mile from camp to
a lion kill, or spending the whole
day away with a picnic lunch, in
search of a rare bird, we make the
days flexible. Some would say that
this is the only way to see the
African wilderness. If guests wish
to lie in one morning, they can, but
not many do!
The
Tent
Tents
are made of heavy canvas and
specially designed for Ranger
Safaris. They measure approximately
six metres long, four metres wide
and two and a half metres high, so
extremely spacious, comfortable and
fully waterproof. The bathroom is
naturally en suite with loo and
shower at the rear. Several large
gauze windows surround the main
sleeping area, to provide excellent
ventilation and an insect free
environment. This extra window space
also allows wonderful views whilst
lying in bed. Each tent is equipped
with bedding, camping, lanterns,
tables, chairs etc – all the
creature comforts that we feel one
needs on a 4-day camping safari.
The
Site
We
have access to some of the most
picturesque and exclusive sites
within this park, allowing us entry
to the heart of many remarkable
wilderness areas and their specific
game movements. The sites used are
always off the main tourist circuits
and set up in spectacular locations.
Whether these are on the edge of a
vlei, forest or river, they will be
off the beaten track, ensuring total
privacy at all times. What better
way to enjoy Tanzania’s wildlife
and its natural surroundings? Please
note that the parks campsites are
rustic, very private and only
allowed to be booked by one tour
operator at a time. Thus, providing
extremely remote spots suited
perfectly to the adventurous
travellers, who seek a simple
retreat. Here, there are no
boundaries as concrete walls,
electricity, swimming pools and
satellite television have been left
behind, and replaced with canvas,
bush lights and meals prepared on
open fires. So these safaris are not
for everyone!
