DAY 1 SYDNEY TO COFFS
HARBOUR (D):
The adventure begins in Sydney at 8.00
a.m. Crossing Sydney Harbour Bridge we
travel through Sydney's northern suburbsto
join the pacific highway. We pass the city
of Newcastle and the townships of Kempsey
and Taree on our way to the beautiful
Coffs Harbour. Tonight enjoy our welcome
dinner. Accommodation: Coffs Harbour,
Novotel Opal Cove Resort.
DAY 2 COFFS HARBOUR, BYRON
BAY, QUEENSLAND, 'NATURAL ARCH', LAMINGTON
NATIONAL PARK (BD):
Enjoy a morning drive to Byron Bay, a
laid-back beach town renowned for its surf
beaches and bohemain culture. See Cape
Byron, the Australian mainlands most
easterly point. We then cross into
Queensland and travel to the states oldest
and most popular national park, Lamington
National Park, via the very impressive
'Natural Arch' . Accommodation:
Lamington National Park, Binna Burra Lodge
(2 nights).
DAY 3 LAMINGTON NATIONAL
PARK, RAIN FOREST WALKS, WILDLIFE AND
WATERFALLS (BLD):
Lamington National Park is a World
Heritage listed wildness area, which
comprises Australias largest remnant of
subtropical rain forest. More than 100
miles of well- marked walking tracks wind
through fern-filled gullies. Watch for the
abundant native wildlife. Activities
include interpretive walks and
birdwatching expeditions escorted by fully
qualified guides. For the adventure
enthusiasts try abseiling, or test your
skills on the rope course.
Note: for bushwalks wear suitable
comfortable clothing including a sweater
for evenings, strong walking shoes or
boots, thick socks. Carry a small backpack
with water and wear a sunhat. A torch may
also be handy for night-time spotlighting.
DAY 4 BRISBANE, WILDLIFE
PARK, HERVEY BAY (B):
A short drive brings us to Brisbane,
capital of the state of Queensland. 11 day
passengers to join tour. Time to explore
the shops or perhaps a short stroll across
the pretty Brisbane River to Southbank.
Then to the coastal town of Hervey Bay
with a visit to a wildlife park en route.
Accommodation: Hervey Bay, Kondari Resort
(2 nights), in a delightful tropical
garden setting.
DAY 5 FRASER ISLAND (BL):
This morning we cruise to World
Heritage-Listed Fraser island and explore
the worlds largest sand island in
specially designed 4-wheel drive vehicles.
Discover the incredible diversity of
experiences amongst the unspoiled surf
beaches, pristine inland lakes and lush
tropical rain forest, all making this
island a very special part of the
Queensland coast. On our return cruise to
Hervey Bay watch for humpback whales (july-october).
DAY 6 HERVEY BAY TO LADY
ELLIOT ISLAND (BD):
A short drive brings us to Bundaberg,
surrounded by numerous sugar farms and
home to the famous Bundaberg Rum. Here we
begin our 50 miles flight to Lady Elliot
Island situated on the southern tip of the
famous Great Barrier Reef, the worlds
richest marine eco-system. Enjoy the
remarkable reef and the relaxed
environment of a small friendly resort at
the end of the busy day. Accommodation:
Lady Elliot Island Resort (2 nights), a
laid-back eco-orientated getaway.
DAY 7 LADY ELLIOT ISLAND
(BD):
Enjoy a full day of wonders discovering
Australias dynamic Great Barrier Reef.
Step of the beach and snorkel, swim or
scuba dive in this magnificent aquatic
world. Lady Elliot Island is also a heaven
for over 50.000 seabirds during nesting
season and is the location for Australian
Geographic's manta ray radio tagging
operation. Our day will also include a
guided reef walk and a sea turtle tour
(seasonal conditions permitting).
DAY 8 LADY ELLIOT ISLAND
TO YEPPOON (B):
A morning return flight to Bundaberg then
on to Yeppoon, via Rockhampton, the 'beef
capital' of Australia. En route we will
cross the Tropic of Capricorn.
Accommodation: Yeppoon, Rydges Capricorn
Resort, boasting two magnificent 18 hole
golf courses, as well as swimming pools,
tennis courts and 12 miles of unspoiled
beaches.
DAY 9 YEPPOON TO
WHITSUNDAYS (B):
Time this morning for a game of tennis or
an ocean swim before we head for Mackay,
the commercial hub for surrounding sugar
farms. Next stop Airlie beach, getaway to
the Whitsunday passage and home to 74
idyllic islands. Cruise to the stunning
Daydream Island. 6 Day passengers to join
tour. Accommodation: Daydream Island,
Daydream Island Resort (2 nights).
Two Night Sailing
Option:
Explore the beautiful Whitsundays and
spend two nights on a luxurious live
aboard yacht, all meals provided. A
professional captain will be your guide as
you sail, swim and snorkel. Additional
US=$190, CDN=$285 (minimum of six people
required).
DAY 10 THE WHITSUNDAYS
(B):
Today you can explore other Whitsunday
Islands or enjoy relaxing on the secluded
beaches. For the more energetic, discover
the fascinating rain forest and shaded
walkways of Daydream island. The
facilities on this island are indeed
impressive and you can be as active or
relaxed as you choose.
DAY 11 WHITSUNDAYS TO
MISSION BEACH (B):
On to Townsville, North Queenslands
largest city. Following a city tour we
continue along the coastline past
Hinchinbrook Island and the township of
Cardwell. Our destination today is Mission
Beach, a region of unspoiled rain forests
and sandy beaches. Accommodation: Mission
Beach, Castaways on the Beach Resort.
DAY 12 CRAWFORDS LOOKOUT,
MILLAA MILLAA FALLS, CURTAIN FIG TREE,
PORT DOUGLAS (B):
This morning we drive to Innisfail and
then head inland. A visit to Crawfords
Lookout provides great views of the North
Johnstone River. We'll also see the
beautiful falls of Millaa Millaa, visit
the famous Curtain Fig Tree and also
explore volcanic Lake Barrine (optional
cruise is available) Then we continue on
to the former tobacco center of Mareeba
before arriving at the scenic coastal town
of Port Douglas. Accommodation: Port
Douglas, Rydges Reef Resort (2 nights).
DAY 13 PORT DOUGLAS AT
LEISURE (BD):
Relax and enjoy Port Douglas at your
leisure. You may wish to wander the
tropical township or enjoy a morning visit
to the Rainforest Habitat Wildlife
Sanctuary where the 'Breakfast with the
Birds' provides a great start to the day.
Join a day tour to remote Daintree
National Park or head across the jade seas
on a Quicksilver Cruise to the beautiful
Great Barrier Reef (all options at own
expense). This evening enjoy our Farewell
Dinner.
DAY 14 MOSSMAN GORGE,
PAMAGIRRI ABORIGINAL DANCERS, KURANDA,
CAIRNS (B):
On to Mossman Gorge where a short rain
forest walk leads to picturesque cascades.
A scenic coastal drive brings us to
the Pamagirri Aboriginal Dancers, located
in a rain forest amphitheatre. Then to the
interesting village of Kuranda where a
visit to the local markets is a must. Time
for an optional cableway journey giving
great rain forest views. We conclude our
tour on arrival in
Cairns.
